The Travels of Vince, Devin & Grant

Devin's love for trains is rapidly growing. He's been watching a lot of Thomas videos, and riding on the Subway a lot. The whole time we're underground, Devin will wave "bye-bye" to every train that goes by, and after every stop while we're on the train. We've got a great system down for traveling on the trains together. First, I'll put him and all our gear in the stroller to walk to the station. When we get there, I'll strap him into the chest carrier, put in the backpack, and collapse the stroller. This makes it easy to go down the stairs and squeeze onto a crowded train. As the car clears out, I'll let him out to look around a little. When our stop comes, he gets strapped back in to climb out, where we undo all the steps to get him back into the stroller.

This week we've used this technique to get to the Cloisters and the Staten Island Ferry. The latter was a great trip. A quick trip down our local 1 train got us right at the Ferry building. We hopped on the free boat and watched the Manhattan Skyline shrink behind us, then got a great close-up view of the Statue of Liberty, before being dropped off on SI, getting us 3/5 of our way to visiting all 5 boroughs. After our requisite 20 minute SI visit, we turned around and went back to enjoy the rest of the great day in Manhattan.

Back in the city, we've realized we didn't pack Devin enough toys, so off to Toys 'R Us we went, where Devin took a beeline to a large Thomas train, and then to a Thomas Lego set. We had to leave before he made the bag too heavy to carry home!
