I have been increasingly using Craigslist for a variety of things. It's a great example of how the Internet makes many things so much easier. Here's some recent examples of things we've used it for:
- Just this morning, I posted my 9 year-old Series 1 TiVo with lifetime service for $50. Within 2 hours it was gone, with the cash in my hand. A little less than I'd probably have gotten on eBay, but much less hassle.
- A couple times I've found guys to come pick up junk from my place and haul it to the dump for $90 (including dump fees).
- Many times I've used it to just give away stuff that would be too hard to sell, and too hard to dispose of otherwise. Old rugs, furniture, whatever. One person, inspired by my sixpak.org email address, even brought me a six-pack of beer when she took away a large plant & pot that Jonalyn desperately wanted to get rid of.
- We found an apartment for our upcoming New York trip. The listing had plenty of pictures of the apartment, and we were able to check out the building and neighborhood on Google Maps. Before Craigslist, we would have had to go through a broker, and would have ended up paying twice as much.
